When motorcycles get stuck at traffic lights and what you can do about it?

Motorcycles are a popular mode of transportation due to their efficiency and speed, but they can sometimes get stuck at traffic lights, causing frustration for riders. This issue is mainly caused by the fact that traffic lights are designed to detect the weight of cars and not the smaller weight of motorcycles. However, there are a few things that riders can do to avoid being stuck at traffic lights.

One option is to position the motorcycle directly above the sensor loop that is buried in the road. These loops are usually located just before the crosswalk and are designed to detect the weight of vehicles. By positioning the motorcycle directly above the loop, the weight of the bike should be sufficient to trigger the sensor and change the light.

Another option is to make use of the pedestrian crossing button. Most traffic lights have a button that pedestrians can press to activate the walk signal. Some of these buttons also have the ability to trigger the traffic light to change. Motorcyclists can reach out and press this button while waiting at the red light. This will cause the light to change sooner, allowing the motorcycle to proceed through the intersection.

A third option is to simply wait it out. If the light doesn't change after a reasonable amount of time, it is legal in most jurisdictions for motorcycles to proceed through the intersection once it is safe to do so. This is called "running the red light" or "safe passage" and is typically allowed as a safety measure for motorcyclists who may be vulnerable to being hit from behind while waiting at a red light.

In conclusion, motorcycles can sometimes get stuck at traffic lights, but there are several things that riders can do to avoid this issue. By positioning the motorcycle over the sensor loop, pressing the pedestrian crossing button, or waiting for a safe opportunity to proceed, riders can stay safe and avoid frustration when stuck at traffic lights.
